February 16 @ 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

February 16 @ 5:30 PM 7:30 PM EST

Presented in conjunction with the Yoruba World exhibition in the Amistad Center for Art & Culture and The Wadsworth’s Morgan Great Hall

This is a can-not-miss cultural moment featuring Harmonia Rosales, the critically acclaimed Afro-Cuban American artist whose work is redefining art history and narrative representation. Rosales’s paintings and visual storytelling have earned widespread recognition for reimagining classical European iconography through a diasporic lens, centering Black women, Yoruba cosmology, and African mythologies in ways that challenge entrenched conventions of beauty, power, and divinity in Western art. Her exhibitions—including Master Narrative, Entwined, and her current Yoruba World showcase—have been featured at major institutions nationwide and have ignited dialogue on race, identity, and cultural memory in the contemporary moment. Her work is held in public collections including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, and more. In promotion of her debut publication, Chronicles of Ori: An African Epic—a sweeping narrative retelling of Yoruba myths and creation stories vividly brought to life through Rosales’s own artwork—this program invites the public to engage directly with the artist. The book weaves ancestral narratives that span the birth of the universe to the modern world, offering a foundational mythology of the African Atlantic diaspora that resonates with readers and art lovers alike.
