Closed on New Year’s Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Amistad gallery tours for groups of 10 or more are available by reservation only through The Wadsworth. To inquire about fees or to schedule a visit, contact tours@thewadsworth.org or call (860) 838-4046.

When making plans for your group, please note:

  • Docent and Amisad staff-guided tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance

  • All tours last approximately one hour unless specially noted

  • The Wadsworth can accommodate tour requests in multiple world languages, including Spanish and French. Please inquire with at least 3 weeks advanced notice.

As part of the Wadsworth’s commitment to community access, multiple free general admission options are available (special exhibition fees excluded).

Wadsworth Welcome

Free admission every open day for Hartford residents through a partnership with the City of Hartford and Aetna. (Surcharge still applies during Fine Art & Flowers and Festival of Trees & Traditions.)

Happy Hour

Pay-what-you-wish admission during the last hour of the day every day the museum is open.

Second Saturdays for Families

Library ARTpass

Borrow a Wadsworth Atheneum ARTpass from participating Connecticut public libraries (200+ statewide) for free general admission for two adults and two youth (17 and under).

Community Open House

Veterans

Free admission year-round for U.S. veterans.

Active-Duty Military

Free admission year-round for active-duty military and their immediate family (up to five).

$3 parking one block away. Bring your parking ticket to the museum for validation at the Museum Shop or Info Desk to receive the discounted rate.

Connecticut Convention Center Garage, 100 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT 06103

$5 flat rate for museum visitors with ticket validation. Bring your ticket to the museum for validation at the Museum Shop or Info Desk.

On-street kiosk parking is available on the streets neighboring the museum. For current information regarding street parking in the City of Hartford, please visit the Hartford Parking Authority website.

The Avery Memorial entrance, located at 29 Atheneum Square North is accessible to visitors with limited mobility, wheelchairs, and strollers. A limited number of on-street handicap parking spaces, as well as non-handicap but nearby spaces, are available in front of the museum on Main Street, and behind the museum on Prospect Street. If street parking is unavailable, visitors may be dropped off immediately adjacent to the accessible entrance on the corner of Atheneum Square North and Prospect Street.

Transportation options

DASH circulator bus, a free shuttle which makes several stops around the city, can be used to get from various parking garages to the museum.

CT fastrak stops very close to the museum for visitors coming from Bristol, Plainville, Farmington, or New Britain.

CT Transit buses stop nearby on Main Street in various locations.

CT rail trains stop in downtown Hartford for visitors coming from Springfield, Windsor Locks, Windsor, Berlin, Meriden, Wallingford, or New Haven.
