Hartford, CT — In response to the urgent need for culturally responsive mental health support for Black men and boys, Amistad Center for Art & Culture is proud to launch the I Am A Man: Black Men and Boys’ Mental Health Initiative—a transformative three-part series designed to create spaces for healing, creativity, and community connection. The initiative brings together nationally recognized artists, performers, and practitioners to center mental wellness in Black communities through art, storytelling, and incorporating both clinical and ancestral healing practices.
PROGRAM ONE: Art, Film, and Conversation with Titus Kaphar

The series kicks off with an evening featuring Titus Kaphar, an award-winning artist and filmmaker, presenting his critically acclaimed debut film Exhibiting Forgiveness. This deeply moving story explores intergenerational trauma, artistic expression, and the complex journey toward healing. Kaphar will engage the audience in a post-reception conversation about art, identity, and the role of creativity in mental health.
PROGRAM TWO: Comedy Night with Rob Santos

Time: 5:00–7:00
Comedian and storyteller Rob Santos brings levity and insight to the conversation around mental health. Blending humor with raw personal experience, Santos invites the audience on a journey through family, culture, mental health, and self-acceptance. His performance offers a powerful reminder that laughter can be a vital tool for healing and connection.
PROGRAM THREE: Wellness Workshop with Enroue Halfkenny

Led by licensed clinical social worker and Yoruba practitioner Enroue Halfkenny, this full-day wellness workshop offers a culturally grounded, therapeutic space for reflection and restoration. Participants will explore mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being through traditional and contemporary healing practices. Food will be provided.
