The Amistad Center’s Uncomfortable Conversations Series invites artists, scholars, and community members to address important topics that promote meaningful dialogue and understanding. This session focuses on voting rights, access, participation, and registration in the United States. It aims to foster open discussion and highlight pathways toward progress.
April 4, 2025, Uncomfortable Conversations: Voting Rights, Access & Participation will feature, Evelyn M. Simien. She is a Professor of Political Science and Director of the Africana Studies Institute. An award-winning scholar and teacher, she has authored four books on Black feminist consciousness, racial-sexual violence, and symbolic empowerment in U.S. politics.
Held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this discussion reflects on the significant social changes inspired by his courageous life and legacy, as well as the lasting impact of his tragic assassination on April 4, 1968. Join us as we engage in meaningful conversations about civic engagement in America—past, present, and future.
