SUMMARY:Healing & Liberation Counseling Discussion & Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of the I Am A Man: Black Men & Boys Mental Health Initiative \n\n\n\nJoin us for a day of reflection\, connection\, and transformation during this immersive workshop led by Enroue Halfkenny\, LCSW\, clinical social worker\, Babaláwo\, and founder of Healing and Liberation Counseling. Grounded in the traditions of African spiritual healing and liberatory mental health care\, this workshop offers a powerful opportunity to explore tools for emotional wellness\, ancestral grounding\, and community resilience. \n\n\n\nThe day begins with a keynote conversation and ritual opening\, followed by interactive breakout sessions that center holistic approaches to wellness for Black men and boys—and for all those in relationship with them. Through storytelling\, spiritual practice\, embodied healing\, and community dialogue\, participants will explore strategies to navigate trauma\, affirm identity\, and cultivate joy. \n\n\n\nAbout the Initiative: I Am A Man \n\n\n\nThe I Am A Man: Black Men & Boys Mental Health Initiative is a community-centered effort focused on transforming how we understand and support the mental health and wellbeing of African American men and boys. Rooted in a legacy of resistance and self-determination\, the initiative uplifts culturally grounded practices\, intergenerational healing\, and systems change to disrupt cycles of trauma and marginalization. It brings together mental health professionals\, artists\, faith leaders\, educators\, and families to promote collective healing and empowerment. \n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator: Enroue Halfkenny\, LCSW \n\n\n\nEnroue Halfkenny (Baba Onígbọ̀nná) is a licensed clinical social worker\, Babaláwo in the Yorùbá spiritual tradition\, and the founder of Healing and Liberation Counseling. A Boston-born\, multi-racial Black man of African\, Mi’kmaq\, Cherokee\, Swedish\, and Irish descent\, Enroue integrates ancestral knowledge\, somatic practice\, and social justice into his work with individuals\, families\, and organizations. With over 30 years of spiritual and meditative practice\, and extensive experience as a therapist\, consultant\, and educator\, Enroue offers a deeply rooted\, compassionate\, and transformative approach to healing. He has consulted with dozens of schools\, grassroots groups\, and institutions\, always centering wholeness\, liberation\, and culturally responsive care. \n\n\n\nSCHEDULE \n\n\n\n\nDoors Open | 9:30 AM\n\n\n\nDiscussion | 10–11 AM\n\n\n\nLunch | 11–12 PM\n\n\n\nWorkshop Session 1 | 12-2 PM\n\n\n\nBreak | 2-2:30 PM\n\n\n\nWorkshop Session 2 | 2:30-4:30 PM\n\n\n\nConclusion & Fellowship | 4:30-5 PM\n\n\n\n\nThe Healing & Liberation Counseling Workshop\, part of the I Am A Man: Black Men & Boys Mental Health Initiative\, will take place at The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art\, park\, then enter through the Avery entrance\, 29 Atheneum Square North\, the workshop is in the Hartford Courant Room from 10 AM-5 PM. This free\, daylong program is open to the public and includes a catered lunch for all registrants. It is specifically designed to center the mental health and emotional wellbeing of Black men and boys\, as well as those who live in community with them—parents\, caregivers\, educators\, partners\, and allies. Whether you are seeking personal healing or deeper cultural understanding\, this workshop offers holistic tools for growth and liberation. The program is supported by Hartford Foundation for Public Giving – Black Giving Circle Fund and presented in partnership with The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.
